GLP-1 pills: the approved options and compounded tablets
Two GLP-1 pills are FDA approved for weight loss in the US: the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron). Both need a prescription. Online providers also sell compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide tablets and lozenges, which are not FDA approved. This guide keeps the two apart, with how each is taken and the dated prices we hold.
FDA-approved GLP-1 pills
Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide)
- Made by Novo Nordisk. Approved by the FDA for weight loss in December 2025.
- One pill each morning on an empty stomach, with up to 4 ounces of plain water.
- Wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
- The dose is raised every 30 days, as tolerated, up to 25 mg.
Foundayo (orforglipron)
- Made by Lilly. Approved by the FDA on 1 April 2026 and available in the US from 9 April 2026.
- One tablet a day, with or without food, and no water restriction.
- Swallowed whole; strengths from 0.8 mg to 17.2 mg.
- A different molecule from semaglutide and tirzepatide.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ro | Foundayo pill (orforglipron) | Once-daily tablet, with or without food | $149 a monthstarting dose, cash price; the Ro membership is billed separatelychecked 28 Oct 2026 | See Ro |
| Ro | Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) | Once-daily tablet on an empty stomach | $149 a monthstarting dose, cash price; the Ro membership is billed separatelychecked 28 Oct 2026 | See Ro |
Ro prices are cash prices for the medication at the starting dose. The Ro Body membership is billed on top, and insurance may cover either pill for some people.
Foundayo vs the Wegovy pill
- How you take it: the Wegovy pill needs an empty stomach and a 30 minute wait; Foundayo can be taken with or without food.
- What it is: the Wegovy pill is semaglutide; Foundayo is orforglipron, a non-peptide GLP-1 medicine.
- Cost: on Ro, at the starting dose, Foundayo is $149 a month and the Wegovy pill is $149 a month (checked 28 Oct 2026), plus the membership.
Neither is better for everyone. Side effects, other medicines and how the routine fits your day all matter, and a prescriber decides.
Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide tablets
These are made by compounding pharmacies for an individual prescription. They are not FDA approved, are not the same as the Wegovy pill or Foundayo, and how much medicine is absorbed from a compounded tablet or lozenge has not been established in FDA review. Several of these prices are first month prices only.

Is there an oral tirzepatide pill?
No FDA-approved oral tirzepatide exists. Tirzepatide is approved only as a weekly injection. The tirzepatide tablets sold online are compounded (SkinnyRx lists them at $199 for the first month, checked 28 Oct 2026), and carry the risks of any compounded medicine: no FDA review of safety, effectiveness or quality, and dosing that can differ between pharmacies. If you want an approved pill, the approved options are the Wegovy pill and Foundayo above.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a GLP-1 pill for weight loss?
Yes. Two are FDA approved for weight loss in the US: the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide, approved in December 2025) and Foundayo (orforglipron, approved on 1 April 2026). Both need a prescription. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide tablets are also sold online, but they are not FDA approved.
What is the difference between the Wegovy pill and Foundayo?
The Wegovy pill is semaglutide, the same molecule as the Wegovy injection, taken once a day on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of plain water, then 30 minutes before eating, drinking or other oral medicines. Foundayo is orforglipron, a different molecule from Lilly, taken once a day with or without food and with no water restriction. Which suits you is a decision for a prescriber.
How much does a GLP-1 pill cost without insurance?
On Ro, at the starting dose, the Foundayo pill is $149 a month and the Wegovy pill is $149 a month, cash price for the medication only, with the Ro membership billed on top ($39 for the first month, checked 28 October 2026). Higher doses cost more.
Is there an oral tirzepatide pill?
Not an FDA-approved one. Tirzepatide is approved only as an injection (Zepbound and Mounjaro). The tirzepatide tablets sold online are compounded, made by a compounding pharmacy for an individual prescription, and not reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality.
Are compounded semaglutide tablets the same as the Wegovy pill?
No. The Wegovy pill is an FDA-approved medicine made by Novo Nordisk. Compounded semaglutide tablets and lozenges are made by compounding pharmacies, are not FDA approved, and how much semaglutide is absorbed from them has not been established in FDA review.
How often are these prices checked?
Every day where the provider's page can be read automatically, and by hand otherwise. The date beside each price is the last day it was read. A first month price is shown as such, and the price after it may be higher.
